Like his musical hero, Rob Garrett was a Brooklyn, New York native.
In May 1974, his parents relocated from New York City to Las Vegas, where, at age 16, he witnessed his first Neil Diamond concert when Diamond debuted in Las Vegas to record crowds at the Aladdin Hotel’s “Theater for the Performing Arts” in July 1976.
Garrett went on to see him multiple times across the country—right up until Diamond’s last American show at the LA Forum on August 12, 2017.
In 1980, Garrett created his own band, “Rock n Roll Heaven,” and enjoyed a long and successful run in Las Vegas and across the nation before making the move from cover band frontman to a tribute artist dedicated to one of his musical idols.
In 1995, Garrett was personally hired by Paul Revere, leader of “The Raiders” to portray Neil Diamond in the Honolulu production of “Legends in Concert”.
What was meant to be a limited run turned into a three-year success.
By August 1998, Garrett was back in Vegas and continued to perform with “Legends” for another two years before deciding to create his own tribute production.
He began a steady touring schedule, building a strong worldwide fan community along the way—earning the title “King of Diamonds Las Vegas.”
He continues to draw packed houses nationwide, often in venues that typically host major artists.
Garrett has also earned several honors, including “Male Tribute Artist of the Year.”
“Since he (Diamond) announced his retirement, I’ve felt a strong sense of responsibility to keep his legacy alive for future generations. It’s something I never get tired of doing,” he said.
On May 19th officially proclaimed the date “Rob Garrett Day,” commemorating his 50 years living in Las Vegas and 44 years as a professional Vegas performer.
Now in this year, Garrett celebrates 45 years as an active Las Vegas entertainer, with the last three decades devoted solely to paying tribute to the now-retired Neil Diamond.
It has been said that no other tribute artist is so closely identified with the original performer as Garrett, who has appeared at more Vegas stages than any other.
Since the June closing of “A Beautiful Noise” (the Broadway jukebox musical based on Diamond’s life story), Rob Garrett’s “King of Diamonds” show has become the only active Neil Diamond tribute production in America.
